American Champ 12AX7 Ultimate and DI v2 – ToneX Collection
 
The American Champ 12AX7 Ultimate and DI v2 collection is based on a handwired Fender ’57 Custom Champ, modified with a Mullard 12AX7 preamp tube in place of the stock 12AY7 to expand the amp’s gain range, saturation character, and harmonic response.
 
This classic low-watt circuit is known for its touch sensitivity, organic compression, and rich vintage breakup — and the 12AX7 front end pushes the amp into a wider spectrum of expressive tones, from edge-of-breakup cleans to singing, harmonically dense overdrive.
 
The Amp+Cab captures were created through the amp’s Jensen speaker to preserve the Champ’s natural midrange warmth and dynamic feel. The DI captures are paired at the preset level with a custom IR based on the Jensen speaker from a 1961 Fender Super brownface amplifier, providing flexible direct workflow options while maintaining an authentic vintage voice.
 
Captured using the ToneX v2 workflow, this collection focuses on feel, realism, and dynamic response — documenting the amp’s behavior across multiple volume settings and both input jacks.
